Dad Matters Calderdale exists to support dads to have the best possible relationship with their families. We work closely with other professionals within Calderdale and nationally to better support dads in the first 1001 days of their parenting journey.
We offer Outreach services/drop-ins at maternity centres, registry offices, Family Hubs and community venues. We provide 1:1 peer support to dads, Signpost to appropriate services in the local area, and support dads to access services and information to help make sense of being a dad. We support dads with anxiety, stress and mental health awareness.

Ways we are supporting dads

Hospital and Registry Office Drop-Ins -
Hospital and Registry Office Drop-Ins - Calderdale Royal Hospital and Spring Hall Registry Office
Every Friday between 10am – 12pm you can find one of our coordinators or volunteers in Calderdale Royal Hospital. Here to give support, advice and a space and time to talk about whatever you need, we are there for Dads starting their journey into parenthood or extending their family. We will visit the antenatal scan waiting room, the Neonatal unit, the labour ward and Ward 4.

We are also regularly in attendance at Spring Hall Registry Office, the location for birth registration in Calderdale. If you are registering your baby, pop in for a chat about how things are going with a friendly coordinator. To find out when we will next be attending Spring Hall, email

Dad Walk n Talks -
Dad Walk n Talks - Walks around Calderdale
On the third Saturday of every month through Summer and Autumn, we host a Walk n Talk event in different locations across Calderdale. This is a great opportunity for dads to meet other dads with similarly aged children in the local area, and to bond and share experiences of fatherhood. Follow the link for more details.

Learn About Baby Communication -
Learn About Baby Communication - Across Calderdale
At Dad Matters, our coordinators undertake Newborn Behaviour Observation (NBO) training during our induction. Babies cannot communicate verbally so their method of communication is their behaviour. The NBO course teaches us how to understand what a baby is communicating by looking at their behaviour through a series of gentle observations. We can then do this with you to show you what your baby is telling us about themselves.

For more information about NBO, please follow the link below.

To discuss arranging an NBO with a Dad Matters Calderdale coordinator, please email

Meet the team

MattCoordinator for Calderdale
Hi. I’m Matt and I am the coordinator for Calderdale. I have a daughter in primary school and a baby son. Being a father can be tough and often, the journey to fatherhood isn’t straightforward. I am proud to be part of Dad Matters to support dads through their journey. I love music, movies, football, and going on family trips to parks, farms and the cinema.
